Richard Abercrombie has been using Training Within Industry to help companies improve their daily management on the shop floor by upgrading supervisor skills and increasing employee involvement. While central to operator and supervisor training at Toyota today, TWI was developed in the US in World War II and Richard learned it from the original materials. Under the guidance of an experienced, “master trainer” from Sanyo, Richard has learned how to deliver this training according to the original, proven quality standards.
Richard has 20 years experience in manufacturing, 16 of them at the Boeing Company where he was a member of small group of consultants helping Boeing suppliers become part of an extended Lean Manufacturing Enterprise. From this wide exposure to varied cultures and organizational situations, Richard developed the point of view that success with employing Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques relies on effectively developing the fundamental skills of supervision covered by TWI. Richard left the Boeing Company to consult independently with manufacturers on a Lean journey including Weber Aircraft, Labinal, HySecurity, Sicma Aeroseat, Starr Aircraft, Marshall Aerospace and Gerdau Ameristeel.
