The Printers Inc bookstore in Palo Alto |
Edward Hopper's Nighthawks (1942) |
Like the coffee shop in Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks," the Printers Inc bookstore in Palo Alto, CA, was a welcoming place even at night, with a knowledgeable staff that could both serve espresso and make you discover new writers. With the MMTI bookstore, we would like to emulate it, to the extent that it is possible on line and for a store specializing in manufacturing. If you are working in a factory in the heartland, far from any brick-and-mortar technical bookstore or library, and need technical information for your job, we would like to help you in one of the following ways:
Through our list of recommendations. These are about 50 books we have either written or read and reviewed, and assigned a rating of one to four wrenches for relevance and applicability.
Through the 4,375 titles we have selected on Amazon and organized for you to retrieve by keyword, author, or publisher, and sorted by title, publication date, or Amazon rating. Our database has the following advantages:
Precision. Since Amazon sells books on topics from romance to physics, searches for manufacturing keywords retieve large quantities of irrelevant titles, which we have weeded out by refining the keywords, and by manually deleting all the wrong entries we could find, such as:
For "Lean production," books on "lean beef" and on David Lean, the director of Lawrence of Arabia.
For "5S," books like "Brain games for preschoolers."
For "Muda," which is the feminine for "mute" in Spanish, the Spanish translation of Helen Keller's memoirs.
More entries at a glance. You get 50 entries at once, as opposed to 10 at a time.
Reference data only. The amount of information displayed for each title is reduced to the essentials, so that it comes up quickly, even if you are using a dialup connection. To see reviews, search inside a book, or see its cover, click on the title and hop over to Amazon.
By emailing you answers to your questions.
Once you have found what you need, we let Amazon fulfill your order.
We don't think our database is perfect and welcome your help in improving it. If you can't find your favorite manufacturing book in it, please tell us and we will include it. Also, if you find an irrelevant book that we left in by mistake, please let us know and we will remove it.
